There is more to being a flight instructor than telling a learner “more right rudder.” You can find out how much more and enhance your skills as an aviation educator at the third annual National Association of Flight Instructors Summit on September 21-23 in Akron, Ohio.
Registration is now open for the event that will take place at the Military Aviation Preservation Society (MAPS) Air Museum, located at the Akron-Canton Airport (KCAK). Early bird rates are available through July 27. For more information and to register, go to nafisummit.org.
NAFI has been offering guidance and support to aviation educators for more than 50 years. The organization is dedicated to raising standards and fostering professionalism in the aviation instructor community.
NAFI president Paul Preidecker noted that the summit location is appropriate, as Ohio is the home state of the Wright brothers as well as some fine aviation museums.

“The MAPS museum showcases aviation history, and we look forward to sharing our conference in this amazing space,” Preidecker said.
The conference features presentations from industry leaders and experts as well as breakout sessions on topics useful to aviation educators. Among the subjects to be addressed and discussed:
- Leveraging technology in training
- Supporting pilot health and well-being
- Integrating tips, techniques, and best practices
- Enhancing industry and government relations
In addition to the informational exchange, more than 25 exhibitors will be in attendance with products and services that aviation educators will find useful, including demonstrations of flight training technology that can help them develop best practices for application in the classroom or cockpit.
The NAFI Summit is also an excellent chance for networking, starting with the opening reception on the evening of September 21, followed by two days of presentations and discussion.
